THE MILL BUILDING, BARROW STREET, DUBLIN 4

The project involved the initial surveying and assessment of this existing 4-storey over-basement 19th Century Mill Building (a Protected Structure) facing Grand Canal Docks and its subsequent conversion into a modern office building in the rejuvenated “Silicon Dock” area of Dublin adjacent to Google’s European Headquarters.

The structural engineering challenges included reinstatements to the existing floor plates, some of which had deteriorated extensively. Throughout we re-issued existing timber boards (where possible) and included a lightweight screed to allow the distribution of services and data cables in this modern office. It was also necessary to restrain the large brick elevations that had cracked and bowed extensively in many areas.
