32 Molesworth Street | Commercial & Office Building Project of the Year | Irish Building and Design Awards 2017

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Refurbishment of 32 Molesworth Street is a unique development in the inner city of Dublin. With its restored Georgian front outlook to the light filled atrium through to the 4 storey modern extension above a single level basement which incorporates office space and car parking. The building achieve LEAD Gold accreditation which was a primary objective for the Client. It has the character to lead from the front in the future of Dublin’s inner city development.

In order to develop a practical design which met the clients (Green Reit plc) expectations in terms of appearance, function and cost, we worked closely with other members of the design team and contractor through the implementation of BIM to achieve these objectives. All members of the design team contributed to put together a BIM Model to collaborate the building’s fundamentals through the design & construction phases more efficiently. The Model was able to indicated clash detection enabling the contractor to visualise specific detail before building giving the project the advantage of good building control.

Cronin & Sutton consulting where happy to contribute from a Civil and Structural perspective from the planning process through to building completion on this 59,670sq ft development. The new office extension consisted of an RC frame, circular columns supporting an RC flat slab. The use of secant pile walls allowed the excavation of the basement maximising the footprint of the site.
